Account Deletion & Data Retention
Instructions and policy for deleting your Knot account and associated data.
Overview
At Knot, we believe you should have complete ownership over your data. In compliance with mobile app distribution policies (including Google Play policies), we provide simple ways to delete your account and permanently remove your data, both directly inside the application and via a web request.
How to Delete Your Account
You can delete your account directly within the Knot app. This instantly and permanently purges your data from our active databases:
- Open the Knot app on your device (or sign in to the web version).
- Navigate to the Settings menu (accessible via the gear icon in the navigation bar).
- Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page.
- Click on the red Delete Account button.
- Confirm your request. Your account and authentication sessions will be immediately terminated, and your server database records will be permanently erased.
What Data is Deleted?
When you delete your account, the following data is permanently erased from our databases and servers:
- Your authenticated email address and profile credentials.
- All internal database records containing saved link metadata, highlights, notes, and reading progress.
- Your custom application configuration, theme settings, and settings preferences.
What Data remains in your Possession?
Knot saves your library files (such as EPUB books and PDF documents) directly to your personal Google Drive in standard formats. Because this content resides entirely in your personal Google Drive and not on our servers, deleting your Knot account does not delete the files stored in your Google Drive. They remain completely in your own possession. If you wish to delete them, you can do so manually inside your Google Drive.
